    Description

Philadelphia was well-known for hosting many Broadway shows during their tryout periods in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and this is a rare program of the pre-Broadway preview of the musical SARATOGA starring Howard Keel and Carol Lawrence. Prior to its Broadway opening, SAROTAGO played at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia where the writers "tried out the show" and made changes based on audience response.
The program is in good condition for a sixty-year-old booklet. There're several light stains (perhaps coffee after the show) and some of the pages have dogeared corners. (Personally, I think ephemera that has scribbles and doodling and coffee stains are more charming than pieces in pristine condition as they retain part of their former lives with their former owners.) The staple binding is in tact. The program also includes an insert with replacement cast members.
Serious collectors of Playbills don't just collect programs from hit shows. If you're on the lookout for programs from Broadway flops, you'll want to add this to your collection.
